The Graduate Center invites current MFA students to submit original artwork created during your MFA program for display in the Graduate Center. Selected artists will have their art displayed throughout the Graduate Center suite and receive a $500 cash award.

The Graduate Center, located in the lower level of the Women’s Building is a public space on campus dedicated to all graduate and professional students at Washington University, and includes common areas, meeting spaces and staff offices.

Eligibility:

All current MFA – IV and MFA – VA  students are eligible to submit artwork. Artists whose work has been previously chosen for display are not eligible to reapply.  All media will be considered.

Specifications:
  • Hanging artwork must be able to be displayed with Command strips or another non-invasive hanging/display type.
  • Textile art should be able to be hung by wire. Artist would need to supply wire.
  • Pin board available for light paper works appropriate for pinning. Pin Board is 29” tall and 96” wide.
  • Sculptures must be no wider than 3’.
  • The largest wall space can hang a work that is 3’ x 3’.
  • Work will be displayed in a multi-use shared workspace. You are strongly encouraged to visit the Graduate Center prior to submitting artwork.

Artwork will not be for sale.

Entry Fee:

There is no entry fee.

Entry Process:

Artists will submit entries through the Graduate Center submission portal.  All artwork must be submitted as a single PDF file with both the artwork and artist’s statement. Artist’s statements should not exceed 250 words. Works will be reviewed by the Graduate Center and artists selected for exhibition will be notified by early October.

The Graduate Center will hold a reception for graduate students and university leadership honoring MFA students whose art is on display later in the fall semester.
